 ABOUT OROMONO
Oromono
is an innovative Amsterdam-based textile line compact with fresh
creations from designer Kirsty Anne Powell. Kristy Anne Powell
graduated in 2000 with a first class honours
degree in textile design from Loughborough University, England. She
then began her career as a freelance textile designer and stylist in
London.
After styling within the
industry for a year, she moved to Amsterdam. Living in such a creative
city surrounded by such inspirational design. Kirsty decided start her
own label and set up her own textile design company.
Kirsty designs three-dimensionally with textiles to create sculptural
forms. By manipulating fabrics with various techniques Kirsty created a
range of individual collections that add their own unique style. Each
textile design concept was then developed into accessories for the home
and to wear.
The Oromono label was
launched in 2004 at the Maison en Objet Fair in Paris, where it
immediately sprung into the limelight by winning the award for the best
newcomer in Textiles.
Then Oromono
went on to win a bursary from the European Union to exhibit the Oromono
Collection at the Interiors Lifestyle Show in Tokyo. Which in turn led
to Kirsty being asked to come back to Japan later on that year to
exhibit Oromono at Tokyo Designers Block.
In 2005, Oromono’s success continued with exhibitions in New York,
Paris and Tokyo. During New York design week, Oromono was selected as
one of the top 100 designs of the century by US magazine Metropolitan
Home. Oromono then gained further design recognition for the use of
sustainable and ecological fabrics when they launched their collection
made from Paper.
Kirsty continues to
create innovative fresh concepts for the Oromono collections and now
sells her accessories to retailers, interior designers and department
stores worldwide.
Kirsty has also been
commissioned to design textile art installations for hotels,
restaurants and private residences and has also had three solo textile
art exhibitions in Amsterdam, Antwerp and Tokyo.
